My first day of college, which is actually the third day of the college, and I am late. I ask permission from the teacher, enter the class, find a vacant seat, occupy it, and try to be the most attentive student on the planet. Within the first fifteen minutes of the class, the teacher scans me a couple of times, before finally asking me the most important question. “Are you sleeping? Or your eyes are normally that small?” My answer goes back in a heartbeat, “It’s the normally small eyes sir.” The whole class starts laughing, I don’t know why.
As soon as the class ends, this guy walks up to me and says, “Bhai kya jawab diya yaar ekdum! Fan ho gaya yaar.. Seedhe teacher ko!” I try to read this guy if he’s pulling my leg or is he serious. He has this green bag with Van Vihar’s label, and below it, some scribbled words, “Sorry seems to be the hardest word.” I wonder if he’s a fan of the Elton John or Blue version. He extends his hand and says, “I am Saransh, localite.” Just after the shake of hand, as we sit for lunch, he asks to play some song or something while we eat. My motorola has a few songs. I play the music player and the song that starts is Holiday by Greenday. “Greenday fan!” he smiles in a surprise. I smile back.
That was the first meeting with Mr. Saransh Dixit.
A breathtaking singer, who brought me close to old songs. The friend who has sabotaged most of our outings. The friend, who has taught us the entire syllabus of a subject in 30 minutes, just 30 minutes prior to each exam. A friend who has kept the non-vegetarian in me alive, between all the Brahmins. A friend who is a friend worth keeping for a lifetime.
Happy B’day Bro.. Ton Ton kardena aaj!😎🤘🏻
