So you remember I talked about my first day of college, which was actually the third day of the college, and I was late? When I asked permission from the teacher, entered the class, found a vacant seat, occupied it, and tried to be the most attentive student on the planet?
There was this one guy in middle row, who was continuously talking to the girl sitting in front of her. Watching them for a few minutes was enough to draw the conclusion that they know each other from before college. Later I came to know that I was wrong. Slowly their voices turned a bit louder and their conversation was audible. “Do you listen to English songs? Have you heard Summer of 69?” These were the questions the guy was asking the girl and she was replying very enthusiastically. I was unable to understand if this guy had a very strong game, or this girl was simply too naive. Few more words later, the later situation was confirmed.
During lunch, when Saransh came to me, this guy was with him. Saransh introduced him to me. “This is Ashutosh. He’s a localite too.” By then I knew this guy likes Summer of 69. Suddenly his phone rang, and his ringtone was what earned him my initial shreds of respect. The song was “Why Don’t You Get a Job” by The Offsprings. When your ringtone shouts the word Bitch during the very first meeting, it does have an impact.
This was the first meeting with Mr Ashutosh Sharma. In the coming days, I was made aware of how little was scratched on the surface during our first meeting because this guy was as simple as they come, yet as rascal as one can be. Be it the initial studious spark during Mechanics lectures, Activa rides to the nooks and crannies of Bhopal, Infinite bunks, Stupid movies, Serious Conversations, he was always there. He is the person I go to when I want to talk. Not because he has answers, nobody has them. But because he understands. Not my situations, but myself. That is the vibe he has given me for the past 9 years. Ours is a friendship which will be the way it is till we exist. In this world, having blind trust in someone is foolishness. There are some people I don’t mind being called foolish for. He’s one of them.
Happy B’day Alphu.. May God bless your high notes
