I stumbled across this song a while back and it is very close to my heart. This is a very specific song – topic wise, the likes of which rarely exist. I always wished if I could have written something like it. So, I’ve edited a version of it, the first stanza, by changing the lyrics in the same meter as the original and not stripping it away from its hook and structure. I mean, why not?
I lost a friend,
like ice in the water
like the road on a corner
like a dream that I woke up from
I lost a friend,
like the moon in the shadow
like a leaf in the forest
like the hand that was carrying me in and out through the crowd in the fair
I know I’ll be alright
but I’m not tonight
I’ll be counting the stars, skipping sheep in the yard
till my eyes feel heavy
I know I’ll be alright
but I’m not tonight
I lost a friend
I lost a friendI lost my mind
and nobody believes me
though it clearly wasn’t easy
cause he’d always been himself, fucking shallow within
and I’ll be fine without him
can’t help keeping thinking about him
How the hell did I lose a friend I never had?
Never had
I lost my mind
and nobody believes me
though it clearly wasn’t easy
cause he’d always been himself, fucking shallow within
and I’ll be fine without him
can’t help keeping thinking about him
How the hell did I lose a friend I never had?
Never had
